I was born on February 4, 1982 and am from Oconto Falls, WI. I drive truck for my parent's business, McDermid Transportation. I have two brothers, Steve and Mathew, a sister, Jenny and parents, Mike and Mary.
My inspiration to start racing was from Dale Earnhardt. He made me believe that you can do anything as long as you worked hard enough at it. I think that anything is possible. The reason my number is 1m is because I wanted number 3 because Dale Earnhardt was number 3, but it was already taken. So I chose number 1 because Dale Earnhardt owned car number 1 in NASCAR.
In my spare time I like to hang out with my friends mostly because I don't get to see them that often. I also enjoy snowmobiling, four wheeling and trucking. I travel to numerous states to race such as Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Nevada.
How I got started racing
In 1998 I enjoyed watching the races every Saturday night in Shawano. I would have to beg my Mom every weekend to let me go watch.
Finally in 1999 my Dad thought that I should get my own car. I was only 17 when I started. So we got an IMCA modified and planned on racing in the 1999 season. Bob Hansel "Shaker" was my crew chief and helped me get my racing started. The "first day" practice in Shawano was very scary. I begged Shaker to not make me go on the track. I finally went on the track and little by little I got faster and got the hang of driving. Then my first real race in Shawano was an exciting one. I went out in the heat and lost my wheel and hub. That was really embarrassing. I started in back for more than half the year. I had two heat wins in my first year racing. I ended up second for Rookie of the year in Shawano.
The second year, 2000, started out with a twist. Mike Wedelstadt gave me my first Dirt Works car to drive. I was really excited to be in a good car and to have someone helping me who knew something about the car. I was improving every time I raced. We traveled to Arkansas, Iowa and Minnesota. In Minnesota when I got there everyone was like "yeah right a girl." I was kind of intimidated. I went out in the heat and won. I even beat their track champion. I had the fastest lap time of all the cars. After the heat race all the drivers were over trying to see under my car. After having a lot of heat and consy races won, I finally won my first IMCA feature at Oshkosh. I was the first female in the mid west to win an IMCA feature.
My third year, 2001, was filled with more consistency. We traveled more and more to get more experience. One thing that turned my points lead around was rolling over in Beaver Dam. I led points all year until then and after the roll my car was not the same. I ended up third in state points, third in Shawano and third in Antigo. Overall I was proud of my accomplishments.
The forth year, 2002, was much like the third year because the traveling continued and the consistency grew more. The beginning of the year was filled with some mechanical problems that we had to work out to continue with a clear outlook for the rest of the year.
The fifth year started out by traveling to Florida and Missouri to get some more lap time. I started the regular season in Antigo and Sturgeon Bay. Sturgeon Bay was a great place to go race because the car count was down and I learned a lot about the track. The crowd was always at their feet waiting for the next race to see how I did. I had some close races, but I came up short of the win again. I still need as much experience as I can get. I went to Shawano throughout the year. For the end of the year points I didn't finish very high because I was back and forth between tracks. I like to finish high in the points at each track, but I learned more by traveling this year. The hardest part about going to Sturgeon Bay and Shawano tracks on the same night was that there were always fans that wanted me to be at the other track. The feeling of people enjoying watching me race is an awesome feeling.
