Julie in the News
9-6-04 Julie ends the season with a feature win at Shawano!

Julie won her 2nd feature of the 2004 season at the Shawano Speedway on September 4th. After winning her heat she went on to capture her 2nd feature win at this track and to place 5th in the final track point standings.

Feature Win GSR Racing Supplies of Clintonville awarded Julie a set of four new tires for her achievement. Thank you GSR for your generosity.

In the feature, Tim Vande Hei grabbed the early lead over John Peters, Jeremy Hanson, John Berna and Julie McDermid. The caution came out on the third lap, for an accident involving Vande Hei and Peters. Julie jumped into the lead on the restart, with Craig Bartz, Benji LaCrosse, Mike Wedelstadt and Hanson following. She was able to build a good lead on Bartz, while Wade Schutt joined the top five before another caution came out with half the race in the books.

Julie continued to lead on the restart, with LaCrosse moving to second, Schutt to third, and Bartz dropping to fourth. LaCrosse pulled right up on McDermid’’s rear bumper and applied heavy pressure for the top spot, but could not make the pass, when another caution flag flew, leaving it a two lap dash to the finish. Julie maintained the lead on the restart, with Schutt getting by LaCrosse for second. Schutt put heavy pressure on her in the final lap, but there was no denying Julie as she won her second feature of the year. Schutt, LaCrosse, Bartz and Wedelstadt followed Julie across the line.

Matt Schroeder of Total Image Photography was taking pictures from the infield and describes the finish as awesome. He said “the cheers from the crowd drowned out the sound of the cars as Julie took the checkered flag”. The fans in the grandstands were on their feet cheering and applauding Julie. Great job Julie!!
